Reflection assignment for Lesson Plan #1

Writing a Lesson Plan on How Do Plants Grow

Writing a lesson plan incorporating technology was somewhat a challenging task. My challenge was trying to find a lesson plan meeting the requirements of the ASSURE Model, NETS Standards, and integrating technology. When I finally decided on the lesson plan it became a breeze. The ASSURE model was very helpful in organizing my lesson and what needed to be included. The NETS Standards that I felt was appropriate for my lesson plan was NET*S Standard 2A (design developmentally appropriate learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the diverse needs of learners).

I learned that planning a lesson is not as easy as it may seem. You can’t just plan a lesson without the appropriate tools and resources. It takes good organization and a well thought-out lesson to be successful. You also have to reflect on what you can do to improve and make the necessary adjustments. The technology tools that we are learning in this class that I’ve incorporated in my lesson plan is using a data spreadsheet to track the growth of the plants in two different environments, as well as charts to monitor the plant’s growth in days.

What I liked best about this lesson is that Science is my favorite subject and we get to do hands-on experiments. It’s also a great lesson for all types of learners and will get everyone involved because it’s fun. The students will also gain experience in various types of technology tools. What I didn’t like about this lesson is that the students will be handling expensive equipment and I would have to closely monitor them.
